Many thanks to Mike Donovan @farmideas for inspiring me to re-visit my blogging days, and to Frank Delanay of @FDbytheword, who has re-engaged me with my love of the pioneer poets…

I have adored that pioneering spirit of the westward drive, the pioneer poets of America, that idea of pushing ever onwards, westwards, that drove so many people out of their homes and lifestyles to search new horizons.

In my business, often I feel that I am constantly searching, or being driven, towards new territories, new landscape. And initially, I feel quite out of place, hesitant, finding my way, until, many hours and days of labour, toil and isolation later, I feel competent, more sure of myself, having a clear purpose and path to progress.

I seem to be asked to do many, quite diverse things in my working life, which, for an independent consultant, is a good thing. I have no job security. My accountant attempts each year to dissuade me from yet another year of this precarious living. But I feel that I am on the edge of something significant, that defines me somehow in ways I have yet to understand. And I cannot, absolutely cannot, give up this self-imposed commitment to making a difference to the lives of so many children and young people who have really been dealt such a raw deal, over this past decade or more.

Our educational landscape has changed so drastically, and not all of those changes have benefited the young of our society who have special needs, who have disabilities, who struggle to fit into societal expectations.

And now, really I must go, with the greatest sense of satisfaction that in the space of 15 minutes I have created and written my first blog, totally waylaid my plans and set my mind a flutter in so many different directions, but it has been fun.

My goal – for frontier news – ah, well, you will have to read on another day to find out.

Godspeed to you all,
